UPDATE, AUGUST 2008

The new school project was considered by the Planning Committee on 24th June where it received unanimous approval. This approval was the final stage that needed to be met in order for the City of York Council to let the contract for the project and on 7th July 2008 the City of York Council signed the contract with Carillion.

Work started immediately after the contract was signed. The first stage was to create the road access off the Hartrigg Oaks roundabout for the entrance into the contractor’s car park and site compound. The materials and the construction of the access road have been dictated by City of York Council Highways officers who are concerned that the safety of pedestrians is paramount at all times.

The next phase of the construction started as soon as the school shut for summer. The perimeter fencing to the whole of the construction site will be erected over the summer holiday period and work has began to provide three new tennis/netball courts for the school to use from this September.

The ICT Contract is expected to be signed at the end of August. Discussions will focus on the ICT design for the specialist areas in the school will continue with RM in September.

Work within the Art department on a design and architecture project has continued this term, this will lead to an exciting student designed element to the new school. Students presented their ideas to the Project Team in July, five designs have been shortlisted and students will continue to work on these in September.
